Ramon Tasat Internationally renowned singer/guitarist/songwriter Ramon Tasat will be a guest artist with the band for a few performances both in 2007 and 2008. Check back for scheduled dates. A Little Bit About Ramon: Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ramón Tasat learned Ladino, the language of the Sephardic people, at his grandmother’s knee. Later trained as a tenor vocalist and guitarist as well as arranger and choral conductor, Ramón sings in various languages, specializing in Sephardic music. Ramón started his musical education in Buenos Aires at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory and the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary, and in 1993 earned a doctorate degree in Voice Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Since then, he has been the recipient of numerous awards, such as the First Place at the Montpellier Cultural Arts Center’s Recital Competition in 1994-95 and a National Endowment of the Arts Grant in 1995-96. He also participated in several opera productions and toured Europe with the world-renowned choral conductor Dr.Robert Shaw. He has performed in international festivals both in Europe and America and appeared live on television and radio. In addition to his recordings, he has published two books on Jewish subjects and he offers a number of lectures, concerts, and workshops throughout the year on Jewish musical traditions. Ramón holds important institutional roles as Cantor of Temple Shalom in Washington, DC; member of the musical advisor of the Berkeley Richmond Jewish Music Festival; board member of the American Friends of Neot Kedumim; and President of Shalshelet: The Foundation for New Jewish Liturgical Music |
