We are the New Klezmer Quintet, a group of veteran musicians who have been performing on average more than 30 years. Understand that we do have a very well-known and older sister band, The Kol Haruach Klezmer Band that performs at parties and private affairs. Therefore we do go by two different names. Per the suggestion of our agent, the Kol Haruach Klezmer Band also goes by the English name "The New Klezmer Quintet" when performing either on tour or for the public. The quintet has a slightly different focus, concentrating on Jewish, Sephardic, Israeli, Ladino, and even American Jazz. (For private parties, we are still Kol Haruach.) The English name enables the band to be promoted to the masses, where everyone understands the name, who we are and what we do. And it really works, as our performances seem to attract large, very eclectic audiences.
So, if you are looking for a Klezmer party band with a specialty in Jewish, Israeli and even Swing music, we invite you to visit our sister band, www.KolHaruach.com.
However, if you are looking for a very versatile Klezmer or Jewish band to mix it up for a concert or public showcase, this website is where you want to be.
Either name will bring you a great band, great music and a wonderful evening!
The band has just completed its debut album, to be released some time in May. To hear clips from this new release, see our sound clips page. We performed at the Strathmore Music Hall December 16, 2007.
